My Society Map (30 mins)
We are going to make a map that shows all the people each of us knows and interacts with. We will also include people we don't know. All of these people together make up our society.Here is an example, read below for the steps on how to make your own.

Step 1:
Look at the example map to get an idea of what you are going to do.
Step 2:
Take a page and write your name in the middle of the page and draw a symbol for yourself, just like Babatunde.
or if you have a computer open this powerpoint doc. and write your name in the middle.
Step 3:
Start filling each branch of the map.
Start with "People I know very well" e.g. friends and family.
Step4:
Then move on to "People I know in authority" e.g. teachers, doctors, religious leaders etc.
Step 5:
Then add people you meet sometimes but don't know very well, e.g. bus driver or market woman etc.
Step 6:
Then add the types of people who you know live in your society but whom you have never met e.g. film stars, people of some other cultures etc.
Step 7:
Now add symbols to people's names.
E.g if you have a very dear friend you can add a heart, or if there is someone you are afraid of, add an angry face, or if there is someone you make music with add a musical note beside their name.
Symbols you can add to people are:
Star - for someone who inspires you;
Trust - for someone you can trust;
Heart - for someone very dear to you;
Angry face - for someone you are afraid of;
Sad face - for someone who is in trouble or makes you sad;
or you can make up your own symbols.
Tip:
If you are doing it with a friend discuss your maps together.
Keep this map safely as if you are sometime in trouble then you can look on your map and see which people you might be able to go to for help.
