Interview your parents! (30 mins)

An interview is a style of communicating with someone. It’s designed to help get more information about a particular topic or person. Have you ever heard an interview on the radio, or seen one on tv?

Today, we’re going to use an interview to help us get to know our parents better. Pretend that you’re a reporter for The Punch Newspaper, and either your mom or your dad is running for political office. Your readers want to know about their childhood, to give them an idea of how they became so influential in Nigeria. Your job is to interview your parent, then write a report for the newspaper that gives the readers a picture of your parent as a child. We’re going to provide some questions to start with, but you should feel free to ask anything you want to know!

Possible questions you could ask:
  • What activities did you enjoy when you were my age?
  • What was puberty like for you?
  • What were you like as a teenager?
  • What changes have occurred in Nigeria since you were a teenager?
  • What is the hardest part of being a parent?
  • What is the best part of being a parent?
