Visit an art gallery (min. 30 mins)

Goal of activity
Encourage students to visit art galleries an museums
Have students critically reflect on the message in works of art.

Activity guidelines
Introduction:
Ask the students if they have ever been to an art gallery or museum? Inquire if there is an art gallery or museum around that you can visit with a group of students. You can also advise the students to visit same in the weekend if it is too difficult to organize.
Step 1:
If possible go and visit the museum or art gallery as a class.
Step 2:
Give the students these questions and ask them to look at the works of art and ask themselves these questions as they look around.
1. Do the art works speak to you?
2. What messages do the works of art have for you?
3. What message do they tell about men and women and their roles in life?
4. Do the works convey any messages about sexuality?
5. Did you get any new ideas from visiting the gallery or museum?
Step 3:
Upon returning to the class as a group hold a discussion on the answers the students have to the questions above.
