Do the walk (10 mins)

Goals of activity:
Create an atmosphere where students feel comfortable with each other.
To facilitate a discussion about the different roles family members can play.

Activity guidelines:
Step 1:
The students stand up and form a big circle.
They start walking after each other in a circle.
Step 2:
Ask the students to walk like as if they were acting as different family members.
They can exaggerate your body language to make the differences between the characters bigger.
Now call out the different family roles such as grandfather, then all the students should start imitating grandfather in the way they walk. Continue calling out family members.

Examples:
  • Grandfather, with a stick
  • Pregnant woman, with a very big tummy
  • Father, proud of his family
  • Little girl skipping
  • Cool teenage boy
  • Mother carrying something on her head

Questions:
Did you see any differences between your fellow students?
How did it feel to walk like someone else?
